EFDSS

The English Folk Dance and Song Society has, for over a hundred years, worked to record, develop and promote the folk music, dance, song and traditions of our country.
With nearly 4,000 members and affiliated clubs and organisations, EFDSS is regarded as one of the premiere folk development and advocacy organisations in the UK. At its heart is the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, which holds the country’s definitive book, song and dance collections on Folk Arts as well as archive recordings and artifacts.
However the society is dedicated to the preservation of the collection as a living tradition and the material is in constant demand by modern-day researchers, academics and artists who bring their own interpretation to the material.
Why we support this project
The musicians selected to represent English folk music at South by South West are excellent examples of artist who, by their interpretation of traditional material, are contributing towards the preservation of a distinct English identity and culture. However their interpretations demonstrate how this culture has evolved to make the music just as relevant in the 21st century as when the songs were collected in the late 19th and early 20th century. EFDSS are pleased to be supporting a project that showcases this material and is performed by some of the most exciting artists on the music-scene today.
